1. What is the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) like at Bishop Aldhelm’s?

Bishop Aldhelm’s provides a safe, stimulating, and nurturing EYFS environment where children learn through play, exploration, and carefully designed activities. 3. What is the admissions process for starting in Early Years?

Parents can arrange a visit to the school and are encouraged to contact the office for an appointment. Bishop Aldhelm’s follows its published Admissions Policy, including oversubscription criteria. You do not need to attend church to gain a place at Bishop Aldhelm’s.  You can also apply for a place whilst also living outside of the schools catchment area.  As a Church of England school, three criteria relate to regular church attendance, which requires a Supplementary Information Form. 4. What age does my child start at Bishop Aldhelm’s? Can I defer their start?

Children start in the September after their fourth birthday, as required by the School Admissions Code. Parents may request:

  • A part-time start until the child reaches compulsory school age
  • A deferred start within the same school year
  • For summer-born children, entry into Reception (Year Foundation) a year later

However, the school generally does not encourage delayed admission unless exceptional circumstances make it beneficial.


5. How does the school support children’s individual needs?

From EYFS onward, the school tailors learning to meet children’s unique needs. Teaching is crafted around pupils’ interests, with imagination and creativity woven throughout the curriculum. Staff ensure every child receives the support they need to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.


6. What about wrap‑around care?

The school offers before- and after-school care through the Lookout Club, which includes:

  • Early Bird Breakfast Club – 7.45am – 8.45am
  • Owls After-School Club – 3.15pm – 6pm

These are run by Bishop Aldhelm’s staff in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Sessions can be booked through the school’s online payment system.


7. What is the school’s Ofsted rating?

Bishop Aldhelm’s CE Primary School is rated Good by Ofsted, with the most recent inspection taking place in February 2022.
